Castle on the hill
Welcome to my Blog!
I've loved Castles for a very long time, so I already had a good idea of what to build, so I started with a loose topological plan for my hill, path, and towers. It's pretty messy because I wanted to keep things loose at first:
Then I lofted all the hill parts and made it look like this:
Next I modeled one tower, and placed them in their respective spots, resizing them for shape diversity. But a castle wasn't complete without a main building, so below you'll see the iterations of my main building, the tower model, and the linework for the more complex model:
After this, all that was left to do was fill in the tower gaps with extruded walls, however I wanted my castle to have proper machicolations (the weird square protrusions from the tops of castle walls, and the murder holes underneath), so I made a simple, repeatable machicolation model:
After hand placing these atop the walls, this is what it looked like:
Overall, this was a great 2 day exercise. I really enjoyed putting some of my castle knowledge to work! Some things I learned: Don't work with angled shapes from the get-go, otherwise your gumball will be hard to use, so create the object entirely, then rotate it into place. I also learned alot of commands since completion that would make the more complex parts of the castle easier to make. Such as an array for the machicolations. If I would do it again I would make the path even, have more detailed towers, and make the hill more of a feature.
I also learned to keep things a bit more tight at first, instead of botching lines for pathways together, so less cobbling.
Anyways, I hope you learned from this, enjoy my renders!

KILT IT. Love the "faceted" landscape.
ReplyDeletethe landscape really adds an extra charm and depth to it!
ReplyDeleteThe landscape and architectures are well designed and the process is detailed! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteI like the way the mountain looks like it is floating. It just needs some clouds now :)
ReplyDeleteI dig the landscape and the very appealing composition. Nicely done.
ReplyDeletelooks like it could be a real castle, love that you included the environment
