Welcome back, all
This week I wanted to take a look at less traditional patterns in our every day lives, before adapting them into this week's assignment.
Without further adieu, let me introduce our guests.
First up, the humble paper towel, which is surprisingly gorgeous despite its use. My favorite thing about this pattern is the repeating natural shapes made completely of dots. The way the smaller forms copy nature is something I wish to emulate in my pattern.

Second, A day old watermelon that was accidentally left out by my brother. It developed a great topology and depth, and I really liked that, plus the inside is a natural pattern.
Third, the seemingly random pattern on my mask. I loved the way they filled space with loose shapes and the palette is nice as well.
Forth, Fruit preservation foam squares. These have a great depth as well, and I like how they took the pattern of a checkerboard to the next level with an offset.
Fifth, getting into textiles, is my towel. It stretches the definition of a pattern a bit, however I like the illustrative approach, and wanted to consider it in some of my sketches.
In the same vein, number six is my bed sheet, which has repeating deer heads on it. To be honest this is here because I really enjoy patterns like this.
Number seven is a sweater I really like. It has a very simple wrapping pattern that I feel could be emulated for a very cozy effect, especially considering use with illustrative patterns.
Eighth-ly? Is that a word? Probably no. Anyways, the next two are from my fabric collection. This one was chosen for it's disruption of pattern, which could have a great effect in a topological pattern.
Ninth-ly (Yes I'm sticking with it) is another fabric, this one having large shapes containing intricate details, which could be a very fun experiment.
Finally, a thin woven drawer that has great intersections. Mostly considered for topological patterns.
With those patterns in mind, here are my (Very Rough) sketches:
I was going to do more but I really felt 3 was the best solution, in terms of iteration I would play around with removing the cat heads or the checkered background, but overall I love the way the ends tie into each other and I think it would be a welcome to challenge to make work. If not 3, my second choice is 1.
Currently I am leaning towards a topographical design, which might be a bit difficult, but I will make it work no matter what.
Thanks for reading!
